It's time to plan your next deer hunt!

SWGS Overview

Welcome to the Southern Whitetail Guide Service website. Since opening in 2001, we have worked hard to create an enjoyable hunting experience for our guest. Over the years, I have noticed an increase in the numbers of guide services & hunting lodges popping up on the internet. I enjoy reading about each service. Often I pick up an idea or two that is beneficial. One question that stands out in my mind is how do you finally decide which outfitter to use? Hopefully, our overview page will help you in your decision process.

We were created to give hunters an affordable & memorable hunting experience. Each year our service improves due to valuable knowledge gained from our hunters and by spending countless hours in the woods observing deer patterns. This experience combined with the management practices learned at Clemson University while studying wildlife biology has proven to be an effective combination. There are several basics we follow while managing our deer population. The first and most important management practice is to not shoot young bucks. We have a strict 8 point limit. We realize sometimes an 8 point could be as young as 1 ½ years old. However, on our property most all 8 points are at least 2 ½ years of age. The second practice we believe in is to shoot as many does as possible. This number varies, but on average doe harvest totals are normally 15 per season. The third practice we follow is to have food available for our herd year round. This includes various planted crops. Some of our favorites are oats, sunflowers, soybeans, and rye grass. The final practice we implement was figured out over numerous seasons that has greatly improved our hunting success. There is absolutely no unnecessary walking through the hunting woods at anytime the year. Our deer hunting woods are treated like a deer sanctuary 365 days a year. All of these practices combined have been proven successful year after year.

Another key ingredient of our service is location. We are fortunate to be located in Bamberg County, which is one of the top deer hunting counties in South Carolina. Our property is border by the Little Salkehatchie River and consists of excellent natural habitat for deer. Not only are we blessed with excellent habitat, we have the cooperation of neighboring landowners who follow strict hunting management practices. This is a added plus that we can't thank them enough for.

We offer two different hunting packages. The first package is an Afternoon/Morning Combination. On a typical hunt weekend, we will meet on Friday afternoon and get checked into your motel. Once you have checked in, we will head to the hunting property for your afternoon hunt. The following morning hunt will conclude your weekend. The second package is simply a half day hunt. It's your choice whether you would like a morning or afternoon hunt. Each package is designed for one or two hunters.
